The Earthquake and the Hurricane
On Friday, I was mowing the church lawn as I learned in Seminary, and one of our neighbors walked across the street to me. He said, "You're the pastor, right?" And I told him I was. He proceeded to tell me that he is from the Dominican Republic, and he lived through three hurricanes there, and what we received was nothing -- that God had moved it aside and gave us a warning, rather than destroying us. The warning, he explained, was that New Jersey had better not endorse homosexual weddings, as New York has done, or God will wipe us out.
