John Cleese's new autobiography is not a book about Monty Python. If you are looking for a book about Monty Python, look elsewhere then So Anyway...
Cleese's
(or Cheese's) new book is an interesting and funny recollection of his
life from his birth through 1967 -- with the final chapter reflecting
briefly on the Monty Python reunion.
Cleese paints a picture of
him trying to figure out how to make a life for himself, and he found
the answer -- each time -- in humor. It is interesting to see how his
natural gift of humor grows and continues to move him forward through
this part of his career. Cleese even reprints sections of some of
his best sketches and includes many pictures of all those involved with
him and his troupes.
In reading and enjoying this work, I am still wondering what really groups him. What is the thing that matters to him in a substantive way?
Perhaps more "heady" things will be addressed in another volume.
